Whipped Cross Stitch
The whipped cross stitch is a variation of the traditional cross stitch and is worked in two passes. The face of the fabric looks same as the cross stitch, but the back looks different.
Bring the needle up at 'a' go back down at 'b' and come back up at 'c'. Continue this pattern till the end of the row.
Next work the same stitch in opposite direction over the previous stitches to form an 'X' pattern.

Cross Stitch

Blanket Stitch
Blanket stitch was traditionally used to secure the raw edges of the blanket. Also known as open buttonhole stitch the blanket stitch has many uses such as finishing the edges, applying applique, tack down hems, binding buttonholes and also as a decorative fill stitch.
Bring the needle up at 'a' and hold the thread with finger to the right of 'a' (working left-to-right). Insert the needle at 'b' and come back up at 'c' placing the needle's point over thread and pull through.
Pull the thread so that it lies tightly against thread at 'c' and repeat the process till the end of the row.
