Shirt Pocket

A shirt pocket is a patch pocket which consists of shaped bottom and a top-stitched welt effect on the top. The pocket may be of same color or of contrasting color with the shirt. The shirt pockets are chest pockets placed on the left side of the shirt as it is easily accessible for most of the people who are right-handed. It can be used to carry small items or hang sunglasses.

Side Pockets

The side Pockets are stitched at the side of pants, pajama, shorts, trousers etc. The pocket is stitched from waist to hip. These are slash pockets as they are set on an angle which allows the person to slide the hands in and out easily. However, the kurta side pocket is stitched 1 inch above the waist.

A welt pocket is a slit pocket similar in construction to Jett pocket but a bound pocket as the sides of the pocket is stitched up. The slit is finished with a welt (band of fabric) usually a separate fabric at garment's front.

Jetted Pocket

Jetted pockets are slit pockets (as the outside of the pocket only appears as a slit) in which the pocket pouch sits inside the garment rather than sewn outside. The really visible part of the pocket is the two thin strips of fabric same as the garment itself and the pouch hangs inside. This pocket is most appropriate for formal wear as the only visible part of the pocket is a very thin trimming.
