A Zig-Zag presser foot is also known as the Standard presser foot or General sewing foot, or the All-Purpose Sewing foot is the sewing machine attachment used for a variety of sewing work including the straight stitch and the decorative zig-zag stitch.
The key feature of this presser foot is the wide central opening that facilitates the needle to move from side to side, for both types of stitches. It is useful for seam finishings of raw edges to prevent fraying, to attach embellishments like ribbons or sequins to the hem, for decorative stitching and patchwork etc. Some zig-zag foot has unique back levelling button on the side which helps to sew thick seems or many layers of fabric together.
