The hourglass shape is defined by a woman's dress with a full bust, pinched in waist and a full hip. It gets its name due to its resemblance with an hourglass, where the bust and hip are almost equal in size with a narrow waist.

Crossed Blanket Stitch

The Crossed Blanket Stitch is a combination of cross stitch and blanket stitch and is created simply by exchanging the entry and exit points on the grid.

Bring the needle up at 'a' and hold the thread with finger to the right of 'a'. Insert the needle at 'b' and come back up at 'c' placing needle's point over thread and pull the thread through.

Go down ant 'd' and come back up at 'e' placing the needle's point over the thread pulling through. Repeat this process till the end of the row.

Whipped Cross Stitch

The whipped cross stitch is a variation of the traditional cross stitch and is worked in two passes. The face of the fabric looks same as the cross stitch, but the back looks different.

Bring the needle up at 'a' go back down at 'b' and come back up at 'c'. Continue this pattern till the end of the row. 

Next work the same stitch in opposite direction over the previous stitches to form an 'X' pattern.

Cross Stitch

Cross stitch is also known as Berlin stitch, Sampler stitch, X-stitch, Point de Marque. It is an easy stitch used on lettering, geometric designs, charted patterns etc. Traditionally the Cross stitch is accomplished in a single pass.

Bring the needle up at 'a' go back down at 'b'. Come up at 'c' go back down at 'd'. (working left-to-right). Come back up at 'e' and continue the pattern till the end of the row.

This variation of blanket stitch is created by lengthening and shortening stitches. The length of every other stitch is reduced by half to produce a long and short stitch.
