Saree Fall

Attachment of a saree fall involves stitching a readymade fall which is a narrow fabric piece along the inner bottom hem of a saree which adds weight, improves the drape, prevent folding and protects the lower border.

Requirements

  • A matching saree fall (3m)
  • Matching sewing thread
  • Pins to hold fabric in place
  • A measuring tape
  • A needle (for hand sewing)
  • Sewing machine

Procedure

Leave the first 10 inches from the start free without a fall so that it does not bunch up at the tuck-in-points.
Align the fall at place on the inner side of the saree and secure it with pins to prevent it from slipping.
Stitch the bottom edge with the help of the sewing machine to secure it completely.
Hem the top edge and sides with a hemming stitch or one can use the straight stitch with sewing machine to secure the fall.
Finish by tying off the thread or snipping off any loose edges.
