The Open Square Stitch is also known as Paris Stitch. It is an easy stitch used to fill the rows and also as a border stitch having a ladder like appearance.
Come up at 'a' go down at 'b' then come up to the left of 'b' at 'c'.
Reinsert the needle at 'b' to create a backstitch and bring it out above 'c' that is at 'd'.
Continue this pattern till the end of the row.
