Heavy Chain Stitch Or Braid Stitch

The Heavy Chain Stitch is created in the same manner as the chain stitch but creates a more compact and solid line of stitch that looks like a braid. It is a looped stitch worked from top to bottom and can be used as an outline stitch on any fabric in hand embroidery.

Start by taking a small upright anchoring stitch.

Come up at 'a' and then pass the needle underneath the anchoring stitch and then head down at the same hole you came up.

Then move down little ways come up at 'b' pass the needle under the anchor stitch again and then go back down in the same hole.

Come up at 'c' take the needle under the two previous loops of the established stitch and go back down in the same hole. Continue the pattern till the end.
