Cuffs With Plackets

A placket is a finished opening or slit in a garment often made with a fabric strip where it fastens (with buttons, snaps or zippers). The cuffs with plackets are generally attached to the long end of the sleeve and requires a cuff-and-placket opening fastened snuggly around the wrist. Of this type of cuffs, the most popular types are the Shirt cuff and the French cuff. Each one is made up and attached to the sleeve at its edge. The Shirt cuff is sewn with its ends aligned to the underlap and overlap edges of the shirt placket, whereas the French cuff is sewn to the placket edges so that the ends of the cuff meet rather than lap, the cuff is cut wide to double back onto itself.

French Braid Maker

The French Braid Maker is a practical do it yourself styling tool which helps you to create beautiful French braids easily. The braiding tool stays hidden inside the hair to hold the French braids in place. The tool features a hook to hold hair at the crown along with grooves to guide sections of hair through creating a vein like specific look. These tools simplify the braiding process by securing the hair and guiding the user to cross strands in definite pattern, which is then followed by a traditional three-stranded braid at the ends. The length of the tool is 19.5cm and the width is about 2.5cm. The tool is flexible, light weight and easy to carry. 

To use it, take a section of hair at the top of the head and secure the top part of the braiding tool by hooking it in place with the section of hair and hold down the hair underneath with bobby pins.

A section of hair is then taken from left crossed over the braiding tool and slid into the next groove.

The same process is repeated with a section of hair from the right side.

Continue the process down to the length of the tool. Once the hair has been pulled through all the slots, the remaining hair is divided into three parts to be braided in a traditional three- strand braid.

Hemmer Presser Foot

A Hemmer Presser Foot is a specializes sewing machine foot with a spiral shaped funnel at the front to automatically fold the fabric twice which results in a neat and professional double-folded hems. There are many types of hemmer foots, a rolled hem foot creates a narrow rolled hem and is useful for delicate and lightweight fabrics, a blind hem foot is used to create a nearly invisible hem and is useful for medium to thick fabrics, a picot foot which looks similar to hemmer foot creates a decorative, rounded or ruffled hem, a narrow hemmer foot which are available in various sizes such as 3mm, 4mm, 6mm etc. are useful to create precise narrow hems.

To use it, practice is the key. It is first recommended to practice first on a scrap piece of fabric to determine the fabric feed. Prepare the fabric for the hem by folding it over once and then folding one more time followed by finger pressing or using a pin to secure the fold and then guide it into the funnel. As the fabric feeds through the foot the funnel of the presser foot rolls it over twice, creating a double fold, the needle then sews a straight stitch or in some cases zig-zag stitch through the folds to secure the hem. The hemmer foots are great to create neat, finished edges for skirts, dresses, scarves, hand kerchiefs, curtains and so on.

A Ball Gown silhouette is a formal floor length dress with a fitted bodice and a full-length voluminous skirt that dramatically flares out from the waist. It is characterized by elegant and glamorous style and is often made from luxurious fabrics like lace, tulle pr satin and also with embellishments like beads. The fullness of the skirt is created by layers of fabrics, ruffles, petticoats or in some cases structural additions like hoops (circular band of metal, wood or other similar material) or horsehair trim (stiff netting often made of polyester). The ball gowns conceal the lower portion of the body and hips and is flattering for most body types.
